Being productive can be very hard in the mornings. Getting up, focusing and doing what you need to do can be a complicated process on any given day. However, with a good morning routine in place, you can find the way to focus and get an energy boost at the same time. By implementing some simple steps, you can really make a difference to the way you work on a daily basis.

Keep to a sleep schedule

One of the most common suggestions, and most helpful, is to improve your sleep hygiene. This means practicing good habits around your sleep time. For instance, you should reduce the amount of screen time you have before bed. Instead of spending hours doom-scrolling on your phone or tablet, pick up a book to read instead. This can put you in a more relaxed frame of mind, enabling you to get to sleep more efficiently as well.

Another sleep habit to implement is sleeping and waking at the same time every day. Doing so helps your circadian rhythm function more productively giving yo a better start when the morning rolls around. It’s worth taking a look at the amount of sleep you need and adjusting your bedtime accordingly. Regularly waking at the same time will help alertness during the day as well as overall health and well-being.

Eating well

There’s the age-old saying that the most important meal is breakfast. While this might be rooted in a cereal add encouraging customers to make more purchases, there is definitely truth to this. A healthy breakfast is the best way to give your brain the nutrients it needs to get started up after a night’s sleep. Good breakfasts should include a healthy balance including protein, complex carbs, fruits, vegetables and a little bit of fat. The alternative of not eating at all, or eating an unhealthy breakfast packed with simple sugars can lead to a blood sugar crash later in the day impacting your focus and energy levels.

Taking in caffeine

Many people like to drink coffee to get their caffeine hit, and it works, but not for everyone.

For many, a moderate amount of caffeine is exactly what you need to improve focus and concentration. However, for those with anxiety or other mental health issues, too much caffeine can be detrimental instead. Of course, it’s a quick jolt to the system when caffeine is involved and won’t last all day. It can give you some focus and fight the feelings of fatigue though, you shouldn’t be drinking more than three to five coffees per day (depending on their strength).

Nicotine boosts

For those who don’t drink coffee, there are other ways to get a quick boost in the morning. Nicotine pouches, like this brand offer a nicotine kick to help start your day. Compared to coffee, studies have shown that nicotine enables users to have greater focus, precision and the ability to perform through the day. Better still, it can help with pain so if you’re suffering, a small nicotine hit can be enough to take your mind off the pain, enabling you to focus on your daily tasks.

Start moving

Many an influencer online touts the positives of getting up and working out right away. And while it may sound like a lot to factor in to an early morning, they are not wrong. Getting up and moving increasing circulation which can really help to get the blood flowing. Importantly, increased blood flow to the prefrontal lobe which is where the focus part is found. It’s good to do at many times of the day as well. And, if finished at least two hours before bed, physical exercise can improve sleep quality too. Of course, it doesn’t have to be a major workout. Light movement and stretching such as yoga or light cardio is enough to improve focus and productivity during the day.

Take it easy

Finally, it’s always good to try and have time for yourself before starting your day. If you start in a rush, piling straight into work, it’s far easier to take sneaky breaks or get distracted. By having a little quiet time such as a cup of tea, reading a book, or listening to a podcast, you can get yourself calm before the rush of work begins. Being calm helps you maintain your focus and alertness, so it’s even worth indulging in some early morning meditation or breathing exercises if you’re particularly stressed.
