Effective Technique To Keep Cold Freight Cold Despite Changing Weather Conditions

Published

on

The weather has always been a factor when transporting goods. Hot weather can quickly heat a truck and cause the temperature-sensitive products to perish. It’s not just fresh food that can be affected. Electronics products are particularly susceptible to heat, as are medicines, and even blood or organ transport.

The majority of these items will survive better if they are transported when cold, using a respectable refrigerated transportation firm. This is particularly relevant today as the number of extreme weather systems increases.

Naturally, using a refrigerated truck will help to ensure your goods arrive in perfect condition. But, that’s not the only thing you can do to make sure your cold freight stays cold regardless of what the weather is doing.

Pack It Properly

The first step is your responsibility. Simply loading goods onto a refrigerated truck isn’t enough. If you want them to arrive in perfect condition then you need to be able to pack the goods first.

The best way to do this is to put them in a box which is close to their size. The box should be lined with insulation and have as little room as possible for your goods to move. Any empty spaces should be filled, this stops the goods from moving inside the box and potentially being damaged.

The box also needs to be properly sealed and labelled. It’s a good idea to write ‘refrigerated goods’ on the label, making it easier for everyone to know it has to stay chilled.

Printed food labels serve as essential tools for providing consumers with crucial information about the products they purchase. These labels typically include details such as ingredients, nutritional facts, allergens, and manufacturing information. By offering transparent and accurate data, printed food labels help customers make informed decisions about their dietary choices, adhere to specific dietary requirements, and maintain their overall health and well-being.

Check Reputation & Service

When choosing a transportation method and firm make sure you spend some time considering the reputation of the company. They should be well known, established for a while, and have a reputation for getting the job done properly. Part of this means having trucks that are looked after and a backup method if needed.

You can ask friends, and colleagues, and even check on social media and online forums to see what others think of the company.

It’s also a good idea to ask the company how they monitor the temperature. They should be able to track it remotely and will know when there is an issue. A company should also have a plan regarding when trucks break down or unforeseen issues delay delivery. Of course, in most of these cases, the truck will still keep items refrigerated.

Consider A Tracker

Most transport firms have tracking systems that allow you to monitor the progress of your parcels. But, you can also add trackers to your parcels before they enter the truck. These are best done as labels which change colour if the temperature moves outside pre-set parameters. It’s a simple yet effective way to know if the goods have been maintained at the correct temperature or not

Don’t forget, with extreme and variable weather, the temperature can dip below as well as above the preferred range. You need to make sure the truck has good seals on its doors to prevent temperatures from changing inside the trailer while in transport.
