Health Conditions That Increase the Risks of Getting Heart Disease



There are several factors that can contribute strongly to the risks of getting a healthy disease. Heart disease is a medical condition occurring when there is a higher pressure of your blood in the arteries or other blood vessels. As a result, if the pressure is not well controlled, it can lead to a heart problem or even major issues with body organs in the body such as the brain and kidney. 

Such conditions can be controlled. However, several factors can accelerate the chances of getting health issues, including your lifestyle, family history, and even age. Such are known as risk factors. Almost half of the total Americans, about 48%, are facing at least 2 to 3 risk factors exposing them to getting heart disease, including high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and cigarette smoking. 

Even so, there are some risks that can be managed and lowered, such as age and family history. Although people ask, “can you get life insurance if you have heart failure?” Yes, it is possible, but steps can be taken to reduce the risks by change of any factors that you can control. So, what are the health conditions that can increase the risks of getting heart disease? Here is a list of these factors and how you can manage them;

High Blood pressure

This is a major issue of the heart whereby the heart fails to function normally. It’s a medical condition caused by blood pressure in both arteries and blood vessels. If this condition is not well-controlled in the arteries, it can greatly cause the heart and several other body organs, including the brain. High blood pressure is referred to as the “silent killer” since it offers no symptoms of the condition. So, the best way to know if you have the condition is to check your blood pressure. Also, you can lower the risks by changing your lifestyle and exercising regularly to burn calories. 

High Cholesterol levels

This is a fat-like waxy substance created by your liver and mostly found in specific foods. The liver is responsible for producing enough of it to be used by the body. However, oftentimes, several foods we eat accelerate its production, and if not used completely, the body stores it in certain body parts, including the heart, liver, and kidney. If you consume a lot of cholesterol and the body does not use it, the extra fats can narrow the arteries and reduce blood flow to the kidneys, heart, brain, and other areas. 

Diabetes mellitus

The body requires lots of glucose for producing energy. In the body, there is a hormone known as insulin that assists the glucose in foods to move into the body cells. Therefore, if you have diabetes, then the body is not able to make lots of insulin for the processing of glucose into the body cells. 

As a result, diabetes roots in sugar build-up in your blood. It then increases the risk of death because of heart disease. In most cases, adults with diabetes have higher chances of having a heart condition than those who do not have it. To understand if you have the conditions or not, have regular checks and talk to a qualified medical practitioner to prevent any chances of developing diabetes or controlling the related risk factors. 


This is having excess fat in your body. The risk factor is linked to unhealthy intake of bad cholesterol, hence increasing the levels of triglycerides while lowering the levels of good cholesterol. Obesity can cause high blood pressure and heart disease. Consult with a doctor for plans on reducing body weight to a level where you’ll feel healthy and in control of your body. This will help lower the risks of getting heart disease. 

In conclusion, the above risk factors can all be controlled and lowered if the right measures are taken. In fact, it all runs down to eating healthy foods, checking your lifestyle, and exercising a lot to ensure that the body is in the right shape.
