7 Ways To Stay Focused With Work From Home Burnout



When you work from home, it’s easy to let the day slip away. The kids are hungry and need to be fed, there’s a pile of laundry that needs to be folded, and the pets want attention, too—so much so that they won’t stop licking your face every time you look at them. There are ways to stay focused when working from home without needing to get back into the routine of driving to work every day. Here are some tips to help you stay focused and overcome work-from-home burnout:

Create a Workspace That Feels Like Work

You might think that as long as you can get the job done, your workspace doesn’t matter. But having a clean and organized space is extremely important to stay focused and motivated. First, if you have children or pets, it’s important to keep them out of your workspace when you’re working, if possible. If you have small children that need supervision, you can use products to help keep them in a small play area while you get work done.

Make sure your desk area is organized so that everything has its place. Don’t let your desk become a dumping ground for other stuff around the house. Keep your workspace focused on your tasks so that you can stay focused on what needs to be done.

Don’t Get Distracted By Kids, Pets and Roommates

The first thing you need to do is set up your environment. This will help you stay focused on your work. You don’t want kids, pets, and roommates distracting you. The same goes for friends and family who may be expecting a call or visit from you during the day. Set specific times when they can reach out and communicate with them while they are not distracting you from work time. Get a helper to watch your kiddos for a while especially if you have important meetings or need to make business calls during the day.

Maintain Your Normal Morning Routine

This can be a difficult habit to develop, but it’s important to change into something that’s not your pajamas. A comfortable pair of pants, with a clean top, can go a long way to helping you look and feel your best as you get ready for work. You can still be comfy at home, but not in PJs.

Give Yourself Time To Decompress

You’re going to need a break at some point. To keep yourself from burning out, take that time when you need it. Remember: the more you push through and ignore the signs of burnout, the longer it will take for your body to recover. Just because you are home does not mean you need to be glued to your computer.

Get up, move, take a walking break, and eat healthy food. Give yourself time throughout the day to decompress and remember that you need work hours that are set. Whether your employer sets them or not, you need to create a framework where you can shut everything off and just “be home.”
